$3,000 in Free Respite Care Grant Now Available for Medicaid Seniors in Michigan

Caregiving is a sacred responsibility for families, but even the most devoted caregivers need a break. That’s why the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has launched the Home Help Respite and Caregiver Support Grant—a program offering up to $3,000 in free respite care for eligible families.

Faith-Informed Care, Fully Funded

The Home Help Respite and Caregiver Support Grant is a Michigan-funded program that gives $3,000 in free respite care to help relieve live-in caregivers of elderly or disabled Medicaid recipients.

This care is fully paid for by the state—you pay nothing.
Islamic Home Care of America is an approved agency that can provide this service.

Who Qualifies?

To be eligible for the $3,000 grant:

• The client must be approved for Medicaid Home Help services (state-funded personal care at home)and have received continuous services for 6+ months.
• The client must require continuous supervision.
• The current primary caregiver must:
  • Live in the same home as the client
  • Have been providing care for at least 3 continuous months
  • Must not be the client's spouse or legal guardian

What’s Covered?

The grant covers services like:

• Personal care (bathing, dressing, etc.)
• Supervision and monitoring
• Companionship and wellness support
• More non-medical activities of daily living

All services must be provided through an approved agency and not individuals directly.

How Long Does It Last?

The $3,000 in funding covers a 4-month period from the date of approval. Clients must use the same agency for the full duration.
